Good afternoon, beautiful people!
Being an alternative fashion brand, our ethos has always been to empower people who stray from the norm. Be it through style, sexuality, gender expression or general world view, we look to include people from all walks of life. We’re devoted to promoting self-love, acceptance and the celebration of everyone’s unique qualities.
As the last year has taken a toll on our health and wellbeing, we’re dedicating this week to the importance of taking care of yourself. Though discussions about mental health have opened up in recent years, there’s a larger conversation that needs to be had around self-care.
How do you take care of yourself? Here are a few little tips from my own experience:
- Mindfulness – Taking a moment out of each day to remind yourself of the positive things in your life is so beneficial to your daily wellbeing.
- Be kind – Treat yourself the way you would want others to treat you. Allow yourself patience and the ability to make mistakes to learn from.
- Exercise! – It’s cliche, but even the smallest bit of exercise can boost your mood! I recommend simple stretches and a little bit of yoga to start off with.
- Giving yourself gifts – Flowers, delicious food, that one outfit you’ve been looking at for ages; gifting yourself is perhaps the most trusted self-care tip, and a little retail therapy goes a long way!

Some years ago, our PD Dolly Leesa bared all and posed for a nude calendar, with all proceeds going to charity. A bold move for anyone, I’m sure! Leesa is Pretty Disturbia’s founder and has campaigned for the celebration of the beauty of alt fashion since our inception.
The Dollies gather weekly over Zoom for a positivity meeting to share our feelings and boost each other up. It’s an essential part of our work ethic to make sure everyone is feeling well and to offer support to anyone struggling. The health and wellbeing of our Dollies is the top priority!
How do you practice self-care and self-love? Do you have any ideas to share with others? Drop us a comment on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, and keep an eye out for our Questions Of The Day appearing on our socials all week. Most importantly, treat yourselves with kindness and care.
Kisses, PD Dolly Hana xxx
