Few people will know how difficult the fashion industry is, the competition behind the passion. As a graduate fashion designer breaking into the fashion industry is ever becoming harder and harder, gaining experience is one thing but getting your first real job is another. So, how do you build up your experience? Internships! Since I graduated in July of 2022, I have completed two internships and I am now onto my third, here with Pretty Disturbia. Internships are a crucial step to gaining the experience and real word knowledge you need for your first job. Some are paid and some are not. The more experience you have on your CV the better your chances for any employer to take you on!

The internship:

The key to a good internship is an understanding boss and a passionate team, people that are happy to help and guide you. The more work you can complete and the more you can expand your knowledge and skills, the better. Just like this one I am in now with the team at Pretty Disturbia. Working together feeling like part of a team. The work for an intern can vary, from designing garments for the next collections to social media input, to writing blog posts! As an intern you don’t pass down any opportunity for a new task, skill, or challenge.

I would say my Pretty Disturbia experience is unique, working remotely is a completely new experience for me. When I started with the PD team, I really didn’t know what to expect, I think there is always that fear of when your stating something new. (There is for me anyway!) I ask myself so many questions: will they like me? Am I the right designer for this brand? What if I don’t fit in? Am I good enough? I can be very critical of myself, the fashion industry is hard and breaking though into it is even harder. Once I got to know the PD team it became much easier, everyone is so lovely and welcoming. The workload slowly started to become faster, and I could start to work on my own initiative. I am so passionate about designing for a brand so when PD dolly Leesa asked me to design for their new collection I was overjoyed. I have spent a lot of my time with Pretty Disturbia designing and being creative, thinking about what i can bring to the brand. I never know what to expect when meeting a new company and starting a new position but i am enjoying my time with the team and the experience.

I want to thank the team at Pretty Disturbia for the opportunity to work with them and the experience they have given me.

With kisses from PD dolly, Molly @ Pretty Disturbia xxxx #PrettydifferentprettyDisturbia
